The Early Years, Build Our Character…

The Early Years, Build Our Character…

Everyone’s life is a series of experiences: some good, some bad, and some that come and go with little thought one way or another. The interesting point about these experiences is the number of them that contain important life lessons but that we let pass unnoticed. There may be a number of events from our own lives that implanted strong life lessons in our subconscious minds, even though we failed to recognize them at the time. It was not until later that we were able to look back, analyze the events, and understand the impact they had on our future.

All these past events may not be positive, in fact, some of them may have produced strong negative reactions. It’s the events that left lasting impressions, both good and bad.

Developing a wealthy man's mindset is a journey, not a destination. It is a personal journey because everyone’s experiences are different. Opportunities abound, but if you weren’t ready and aren’t prepared, you will fail to recognize them when they arise. You’ll join the ranks of those who aren’t prepared for an opportunity that comes your way, someone else will grab it and you will be talking about how lucky they were.

Those years, when you were young and eager, you’re like a sponge, young, innocent, and willing to soak up everything that comes your way. The problem is, it’s just as easy to soak up bad information as good. If you soak up too much bad information, it can turn from a sponge that soaks up knowledge into a rock that resists all change. But even if you’ve already become a rock, you need to take a second look at those times when you soaked up bad information, and try to expunge the negative from your mind and become a sponge once again.

Greed, jealousy, hate, envy, bitterness, mistrust, and suspicion are all negative thoughts and emotions that come from bad experiences. Hurt, anger, and resentment can devour you like cancer if you don’t get rid of them.

Most of us didn’t react well when things didn’t go our way, but it was up to us to choose whether we let disappointment and failures get us down or teach us a lesson. We may come to realize that some of the best lessons life teach us are what not to do. It’s the choices we make when things happen that have an influence on our lives. Yes, there is a cause and effect to almost everything. For example, two people get a lemon each, one complains about the sour deal he got, while the other makes lemonade.

Why? Why do people have such different reactions to the same event? Why do some people let negative emotions destroy them while others use the same emotions to get stronger?

Psychologists say that most of our view of the world is well developed by the time we’re seven years old. By that age, we have developed a paradigm or a mental map of the way the world operates. Life can hand you difficult situations, but these don’t have to ruin your life. Childhood memories, both good and bad, can be used to build character.

That’s all for now, my friends. See you all in my next article.
