The End Of The Innocence
The End Of The Innocence

In an ideal world, we would all live happily and peacefully. There would be no need for legal agreements, lawyers, courts, the police, and jail. And who among us does not long for the good ol’ days when life was much simpler when trust was but a given when man’s words is as good as money in the bank and the sky was still blue. Where I grew up, we only lock our doors at night. And the only reason we did that was to keep creatures such as snakes, frogs, and mosquitoes out!
But to believe that life is still like that would be living in a dreamland. Those days are gone for good. Anyone who insists otherwise is welcome to try it. Try not locking your doors, try doing business without legal agreements, or try concluding deals by just shaking hands. My guess is that it will be a matter of time before the rattlesnakes get to them, that is if the rats don’t kill them first.
While there are certainly millions of decent, honest, and hard-working people in the world, there are also “others”. The reality is that there are a lot of nasty, evil people out there who make a living out of lying, cheating, misleading, taking, stealing, misappropriating, and more words that have yet to be invented to describe them. They will take money from orphans, little old ladies, mosques, churches, temples, and in fact, anything under the sun.
And then there are others who want to have what you have without doing the work. What is yours is theirs. They will take an oath in the name of God, and then lie through their teeth. And often, get away with it.
Real life is not like the movies, where good usually wins in the end. In real life, the bad guys often get away with murder. Sometimes, they get away with more.
We all get hammered because the bad guys in real life do not look like they do in the movies. In the movies, it’s easy to recognize the bad guys. They are usually fay, ugly, mean, and want to take over the world. In real life, the bad guys are nothing like that. At first glance, they appear to be nice. They look good and perhaps have fancy titles and letters before and after their names. They may speak flawless English, wear ties, drive fancy cars, and work from posh offices. Sometimes, the bad guys in real life are not guys at all, but little old ladies who drive only on Sundays and claim to be poor defenseless widows! But deep down inside, all of them are just lowdown, dirty scoundrels. Even snakes slither away from these people!

In the US, a lawsuit is filed every 30 secs or less. That’s at least two lawsuits every minute. That by itself is scary. It gives us the creep just thinking about it. But what is worse is that there are more law students than there are practicing lawyers today. Once all these students come out to the workplace, the situation will be even worse. There’ll probably be a lawsuit filed every second. Now while that is in the US, the same thing will very likely happen in other parts of the world. It’s just a matter of time. There’ll be people who will take legal action at the slightest slip because they see the opportunity to make some very big bucks without doing the work, and they will do so. Especially after finding out that you have some money.
Of course, I hope that I will be proven wrong here. I hope that we will all remain sensible and never develop into such a toxic society. But from what I have seen and from what has happened in the past, let’s just say that I’m not counting my chickens yet. In fact, I’m building a fort around the chicken coop.
Lives have been changed, money has been lost and futures have been destroyed because of all these rattlesnakes. In the worst-case scenario, all that you have worked for can be gone in a flash.
So you must do what is necessary to protect yourself from these rattlesnakes. Firstly, lock your doors. Protect your password to your bank accounts. Never assume anything. Check and re-check your information. And always do business with legal agreements signed. As for your assets, perhaps it is time to place them under company names or transfer them to family trusts.
In the end, you have to be your own watchdog. You have to watch your own back. Sure, the government must do something to protect the innocent but it is even more important that the innocent protect themselves as well. Because, no matter what we warn you about, no matter what laws come up, no matter what rules and regulations say, the rattlers will come up with something new. More ingenious, more elaborate, slicker, and more advanced than before.
The angles can build a wall five feet high but the devils can jump ten feet!.
That’s all for now, my friends. See you all in my next article.
