Accelerate Your Growth With The Right Goals

Most business owners want to achieve results fast. They’re always looking for ways to beat the competition, get ahead and get things done faster. Unfortunately, many end up running in circles, instead of moving forward faster. That’s why it is important to have clear goals and plans.
Imagine you are in a room with chairs and tables, and suddenly the lights go off, and somebody says “Fire! Get out of the room!” How fast do you think you can get out of the room? On the other hand, if instead of a dark room, the room is brightly lit, how fast can you get out of the room now? This simple analogy shows you the difference between having goals and not having goals. When you have clear goals, it’s like a light bulb in the room. You can see clearly where you want to go, where the door is, and where the tables and chairs are, and therefore you can move faster. Using the analogy of the room, the clearer the goal, the brighter the room, the better you see and therefore the faster you move. make sense? On the other hand, if your goals are unclear, unspecific, or fuzzy, the dimmer the room and therefore the slower you move because you’re uncertain or less clear where the door is.

Here are 5 Reasons Why You Need to Set Goals
- Sense Of Direction
One reason for setting goals is that goals give you a target or destination to aim for, hence it gives you a sense of direction. Without goals, you end up drifting aimlessly or get pulled in different directions by all sorts of distractions that come along every day. Time passes and after a while, you’re wondering what have you accomplished and why haven’t you made progress. Sound familiar?
2. Get Into Action
Goals pull you out of inaction and help you get into action, get you moving. When you have a goal, you’re spurred into action to achieve that goal, and together with that, you stay motivated. When you are motivated and start taking action, you get results. It may not be the best result at first, but at least you start making some progress. Without goals, you’re likely to be in a locked-down state of inertia, unable to get started and get going.
3. Goals Create Momentum
Once you’re in action, in motion, you’re creating momentum, and that momentum will add to your excitement and your motivation to continue striving toward your goal. It gives you the impetus to overcome obstacles and challenges that can get in the way.
4. Staying Focused And On Track
Another important reason or benefit of setting goals is it gives you a sense of purpose and clarifies your priorities. This leads you to make decisions faster. A goal gets you moving towards an objective. Thus, it helps you to stay focused. Goals keep you on track and give you a clear direction of where you are headed. You stay on course and are clear about what needs to be done to achieve your goals. If I have a goal to finish a project by a certain date, it gives me a clear direction and purpose. I know it is a major project, a huge commitment and this leads me to give up or scale back other things such as holidays or even new projects, for the time being, until I complete the project.
5. Goals Lead To Growth
And, finally, goals help you become an achiever and grow in your capacity and capability. A goal always stretches you. As you embark on executing your activities toward achieving your goals, you get better and begin to develop the skills and capabilities that are needed to achieve the goal.
Without goals, you’re just drifting, hoping for the best, waiting for “opportunities” to show up. Successful people create their own opportunities.
