"The Art of Concentration: Navigating Distractions and Staying Alert"
"The Art of Concentration: Navigating Distractions and Staying Alert"

As you pursue your dreams, there’ll be many distractions along the way. While these distractions may include people and things, there can be also opportunities. When you are operating your side hustle, there’ll be offers and opportunities coming your way. And if you happen to be good at what you are doing, there’ll be thousand and one knocks on the doors. Some of them may look good, some of them may sound good and some of them may feel good. As a result, you may be tempted to try some, if not all of them. Now, while this is not necessarily bad, the one sure thing is that you are spreading your resources to meet all these additional demands.
Remember that any additional job will demand your time, effort, and energy. You could easily pull one off. But to have to do five things at a time, you will find it hard to give each one your utmost concentration. It could therefore make you less effective. End result — no result, and you are toast.
A better way is to focus. Choose one, two, and at the most three things that you want to do and just concentrate on those. Actually the lesser, the better. Preferably, choose the ones that generate the most money. This way, you can give each one the fair time that they will no doubt require. You will become better at it, become more comfortable doing it and eventually become an expert and an authority on the subject. By focusing, the payback is often more spectacular.
Of course, doing this will mean that you have to forgo some exciting possibilities. As always, this is easier said than done as some of these opportunities are too good to let go of. But you just have to regain your senses, stay focused and just smile, shrug your shoulders and say, “Maybe next time”.
And friends, this is a beautiful thing. In many ways, this is actually more valuable than the money because it means that you are growing and learning. What I’m trying to say here is that money alone should not be the attraction. While the money is good, the main appeal is growth. The appeal is seeing yourself grow from a “boy” into a “man”.

As with any side hustle, there are two cardinal rules that you must observe at all times.
- Don’t do work that jeopardizes your main job.
The idea of having a side hustle is to supplement your income, it goes without saying that you should not do anything that can jeopardize your main source of income. It would not be sensible to do things that will disrupt or worst, cause you to miss work. This can lead you to lose your job and therefore lose your main income. This is like shooting yourself in the feet, hand, and also your head. Instead of having an additional source of income, you now have nothing at all. An example would be trying to sell insurance for a competitor when you are already working for an insurance company. This is not only stupid but it is downright dangerous.
2. Never sell at the office.
As long as you are working for someone else, you must never ever sell anything at the office. Employers cannot, and will not penalize you for doing something else outside the office or on your own time. However, if you sell or even try to sell something at the office, they will not only penalize but will even sack you. Employers view this as an unforgivable sin. They see you as stealing their time, disrupting other employees, and being a general nuisance to the well-being of the company. Other than stealing and lying, this has got to be one of the worst sins in the company’s eyes.
So, stay focused on your dream while at the same time beware of things and situations that may derail it.
