Taking Risk - Part Of Our Everyday Lives
The way some people live life, you would swear that they were absent when God was handing out adventures. They view new things as dangerous and change as something ghastly. So they sit quietly in the background and soon become the background. naturally, they also follow fixed routines and formulas. Most of them, have never tried anything new. They live in the same old house, do the same old job, and have the same old friends and neighbors. In short, they never step out of their comfort zone.
When I tell those folks that I love to go on roller coasters, they cringe. When I tell them that I like water rafting, they shake their heads and say I am crazy and that I most probably might hurt myself.
“Do you drive?” I ask. They nod their heads. Well, from statistics, driving is at least ten times more dangerous than water rafting, twenty times more dangerous than bungy jumping, and a hundred times more dangerous than going on a roller coaster. I used to tell them. “Every day, hundreds if not thousands of people die on the road due to road accidents. That’s every day. And when did you last hear someone getting injured from water rafting or on a roller coaster? They quickly change the topic to politics.
Friends, to live life, one must be prepared to take risks. This life is meant to be lived, and that means to live “dangerously”. Dangerous in the sense that there will be risks, adventures, and challenges along the way. Dangerous in the sense that there will be times when we have to go way out of our comfort zone. Dangerous in the sense that there will be a period when we have to put it all on the line. If we avoid all the challenges, skip the adventures and play safe all the time, life will be too boring to live.
Here are some ways that will bring cheers o your life.
Here is a story of three guys who took risks, defied the odds, and changed the world.
It was a foolish, crazy, and absolutely insane idea that struck Christopher Columbus to sail across uncharted seas to find a new route to Asia. Didn’t he know that the world was flat and if you sailed to the edge, you would fall to your death? And the seas themselves were full of strange creatures and what else lay beneath that deep blue water? All his ships and all 90 crews onboard will be doomed. You see friends, that was the opinion of everyone- Kings, priests, and geniuses included before 1492. And while Columbus did not quite find the new route, he found something else, a whole new continent, the Americas. He had failed gloriously. Today, aren’t we glad that he was willing to risk his life to prove his point.?
And what were the Wright brothers thinking? Trying to design a flying machine? If God had meant for humans to fly, He would have given us wings. Men had never flown in thousands of years, what made them think they could soar with the birds? But on 17 December 1903, in a little weird machine they put together, Orville became the first man to fly. We are all thankful that the 2 brothers ignored history to carve a new freedom for mankind. Because they are willing to take risks, they changed the world, enabling millions today to fly.
Friends, everything that we are enjoying today exists because someone took a risk. Someone ignored the critics of the day and went ahead. They did what they wanted to do, and after much heartbreak and failure, got what they wanted. And in the process, made the world a better place.

It is very likely that we will fail in whatever we are doing. It is normal for anyone to encounter failure, especially in the beginning. It can also be heartbreaking. After all the time, effort, and money spent, it can be a very devastating experience. But we have to overcome the blues. Failing is just nature’s way of telling us that we have more things to learn. So learn them and most important of all, try again. If you fall, get up and try again, this time more intelligently.
Thoms Edison was reputed to have tried fourteen thousand times before perfecting the light bulb. Imagine a world without electricity today. So the next time you fail, just brush the dust away, learn the lesson and try again. Risks and failures are just part of our everyday lives.
