Don’t Let Frustrations Deter You
Succumbing to frustrations can sink even the best of us. Many people know what to do but refuse to practice long enough to master it. They become frustrated when everything doesn’t go perfectly the first time, and they lack the determination to keep at it long enough to get it right. They let small failures and insignificant shortcomings keep them from doing great things.
We have often heard phrases like: “That doesn’t work where I live. I‘ve made four offers and all I’ve done is insult people. I don’t want to keep doing that.” These people are allowing other people’s reactions to their efforts to put doubts in their minds.

My insurance agent once told me he made over 50 offers that were rejected before finally having one accepted, he then followed up with 20 of them, and six accepted his offer. Succumbing to frustrations when success doesn’t come quickly is the best way to ensure failure.
Throughout our lives, we will have many instances to let frustration get in the way of success but we need to resist that temptation. Successful people attribute much of their success to their ability to cope with frustrations without allowing frustrations to deter them from their goals.
Frustrations come into play all across life’s spectrum, they aren’t just limited to major events. Learning to deal with frustrations, even small ones, can make life more fun as well as make you more enjoyable to be around.
My friend, Roger, went through a similar experience when he first learned to scuba dive. He was spending a week at Club Med. He signed up for a five-day scuba diving course. One of his frustrations was that the instructor taught the entire course in French, and in spite of taking a few years of French in high school, he had trouble understanding everything.
On the fifth day, the instructor gave him a heavier weight belt than he needed, and he had some difficulty staying up in the water. It didn’t seem serious to him but made him work harder than usual. At the end of the session, the instructor failed him without any explanation that Roger could understand. He was furious because he felt that he was capable of finishing the course. He was sure that the instructor was being unfair and his initial reaction was to forget the entire idea of scuba diving altogether. Then he decided that he wasn’t going to let this incident affect his desire to learn scuba diving, so he swallowed his pride and the next day signed up for the course again and started the entire process all over. If he hadn’t done that, he would have missed out on all the joys and excitement of scuba-diving trips that he later took from Tahiti to the Virgin Islands.
Friends, this is an important part of the journey of “building the mindset of successful people”. Losers get frustrated and quit when they think they’ve been treated unfairly, winners swallow their pride and get back in the game.
If you let frustrations deter you, you will never be able to develop a strong mindset. When frustrations arise, deal with them by learning more and practicing what you learn. You will find that your frustrations, no matter how great, will slowly subside and eventually go away.
