The Power of Seeking Encouraging Advice

The Power of Seeking Encouraging Advice Most people, when dealt a blow like the loss of a job or some other unexpected event, seek out those who are going through similar adversities because they think these people will better understand their plight. Although they tell themselves they are looking for advice, what they really want is sympathy. The problem is, that sympathy doesn’t solve problems. In fact, more often than not, it profounds the problem During my early working years, when I received word of my pending layoff or company’s downsizing as we would say today, I felt the same way most people in that situation would feel. My first reaction was to contact a couple of former employees of the company who had been laid off to see what they were doing. As expected, what I got were tales of disappointment and woe. They had been unable to find jobs and their savings were running low. Bills were piling up and they were at loss as to what they would do. None of the conversations wi...

"The Art of Concentration: Navigating Distractions and Staying Alert"

"The Art of Concentration: Navigating Distractions and Staying Alert" As you pursue your dreams, there’ll be many distractions along the way. While these distractions may include people and things, there can be also opportunities. When you are operating your side hustle, there’ll be offers and opportunities coming your way. And if you happen to be good at what you are doing, there’ll be thousand and one knocks on the doors. Some of them may look good, some of them may sound good and some of them may feel good. As a result, you may be tempted to try some, if not all of them. Now, while this is not necessarily bad, the one sure thing is that you are spreading your resources to meet all these additional demands. Remember that any additional job will demand your time, effort, and energy. You could easily pull one off. But to have to do five things at a time, you will find it hard to give each one your utmost concentration. It could therefore make you less effective. End result ...

Taking Risk - Part Of Our Everyday Lives

Taking Risks- Part Of Our Everyday Lives The way some people live life, you would swear that they were absent when God was handing out adventures. They view new things as dangerous and change as something ghastly. So they sit quietly in the background and soon become the background. naturally, they also follow fixed routines and formulas. Most of them, have never tried anything new. They live in the same old house, do the same old job, and have the same old friends and neighbors. In short, they never step out of their comfort zone. When I tell those folks that I love to go on roller coasters, they cringe. When I tell them that I like water rafting, they shake their heads and say I am crazy and that I most probably might hurt myself. “Do you drive?” I ask. They nod their heads. Well, from statistics, driving is at least ten times more dangerous than water rafting, twenty times more dangerous than bungy jumping, and a hundred times more dangerous than going on a roller coaster. I used to...

The Earning Years

Image
The Earning Years… The earning years, as we define them, begin when individuals commit to career decisions and settle into consistent courses of action that determine the kind of future they will experience. Most of us attempt a number of jobs in our youth before we settle into a career. Some people tried 5, 10, or more jobs before settling into a career. Some enter the earning years early, some late, and, unfortunately, some never make it. Career selections are not as important as the choices people make throughout their lives. Developing this thought process through which the average working person can build wealth and ultimately become a millionaire is more important. It entails accepting personal responsibility, developing a pattern of investing, tracking where your money goes, developing a plan for success, keeping on track, repelling negative influences, and continuing to learn. Bear in mind that the journey to financial independence is often a slow and often difficult one...

The Ability To Do and The Ability To Manage Are Different

The Ability To Do and The Ability To Manage Are Different Accepting promotions for which you are not qualified before learning the skills needed to do the job may make you feel important in the beginning but it can also lead to failure. Here is the story of George, who rose from Sales Representative and who is now a top Senior Sales Representative in his company. The other sales representatives were constantly asking him how he did it. At the daily briefings, everyone waited for him to tell how he did it the day before. They were envious of his abilities to close sales nearly every day and those assigned to work under Goerge were looking forward to learning from him. As a Senior Sales Representative, he has 4 Sales Representatives working under him and George often assured them he would do everything in his power to help them achieve the kind of success he had enjoyed. Before the morning briefing, he would select one of them each day with whom he would make calls. This way, he co...
